Throughout her life Nan has been open to new possibilities and pursued various careers including Personnel Examiner, NYC Dept of Personnel; newspaper reporter; computer programmer; and real estate sales plus various administrative positions along the way. She became Temple Administrator several years after the Rabbi called and asked her to work as school secretary for 3 hours a week in 1988. As the Temple membership grew, the position grew along with it to the current full-time position.
Nan is very grateful for the opportunity she has had to work with our Temple family over these many years. Although she has lived in Bethel, Connecticut for 20 years, she still considers herself to be a New Yorker at heart and roots for all the New York teams, most notably the New York Yankees. She and her husband Tom raised five children, all grown. Three are married and the familiy is blessed with five grandchildren. She enjoys every minute spent in their company!
Robin Sills, Cantorial Soloist:
Our Cantorial Soloist, Robin Sills, has over 50 years experience performing and teaching both voice and piano. She specializes in both liturgical and contemporary Jewish and inspirational music. Robin graduated from the Westchester Conservatory of Music and spent four years touring the United States and Europe as soloist for her college choir. She uses her vast musical knowledge and experience working with children all over the Westchester and Putnam County area. As a young adult she was part of the Amato Opera Company in Manhattan for many years and performed in many operatic productions.
She has been part of Temple Beth Elohim for 24 years and in that time has enhanced our Shabbat and holiday services with her lovely voice. She directs and sings with the Temple Beth Elohim Adult Choir and our High Holy Day Choir as well, and she also has organized and leads our Children’s Choir. Robin is the Music Teacher for our religious school and teaches music and prayer to our children. Her passion is working with the boys and girls in the Bar/Bat Mitzvah class and preparing them for their B’nei Mitzvah ceremonies. She has spent many weekends singing original, traditional, and contemporary music at the B'nei Mitzvah ceremonies of our children.
Robin lives in Danbury, Connecticut, with her husband Richard whom she met 23 years ago at a community event involving Temple Beth Elohim. Their four children, Caryn, Terry, Todd and Traci, are all grown and married, and they have seven beloved grandchildren.
