Our Cantorial Soloist, Robin Sills, has over 30 years experience in performing and teaching both voice and piano. She specializes in both liturgical and contemporary Jewish and inspirational music. Robin graduated from the Westchester Conservatory of Music and spent four years touring the United States and Europe as soloist for her college choir. She uses her vast musical knowledge and experience working with children all over the Westchester and Putnam County area.
Robin is the soloist at Temple Beth Elohim, enhancing our Shabbat and holiday services with her lovely voice. She also directs and sings with the Temple Beth Elohim Choir. She spends her weekends singing original, traditional, and contemporary music at the B'Nei Mitzvah ceremonies of our children.
Robin's role in our Religious school is to teach holiday songs and Shabbat prayers to the students at the Temple Beth Elohim Religious School so that our children may more fully participate in our services.
Musical accompaniment is provided by Richard Sills, organist and vocalist.
Adult Choir: The Adult Choir sings at Torah services, the third Friday of each month. The choir also participates in High Holy Days Services, and at special services and events throughout the year such as the Yom Hashoah Commemoration service and the Cantorial Concert held by the Jewish Federation.
Rehearsal Schedule: The Adult Choir will meet twice monthly for rehearsals.
Monday night rehearsals are at 6:45 pm on the Monday preceding the Torah Service. The choir will work on new pieces during these rehearsals and members who attend will sing these pieces as an ensemble the first few times a piece is sung during the service.
Friday rehearsals are at 6:30 pm prior to the Torah service. This rehearsal serves as a warm up for the service and for practice of relevant pieces.
Young People's Choir: 3rd Grade to Teens
Children in 3rd grade and up are invited. Participating teens will have their own separate part. All choir members must be able to sit quietly with the chorus for the duration of the service when not actively singing. Please encourage your children to join, as this will be a rewarding experience not only for the children but for the congregation as well.
Rehearsal Schedule: Please remember rehearsal begins promptly at 6:30pm prior to the service.
Young People's Choir Dress Code: White shirt or blouse, dark pants or skirt.
New Members: You are invited to join our dedicated Temple choirs. Rehearsals will begin in September. You need not be able to read music or Hebrew - just be able to sing on key - we will help you with the rest. What a great and fun way to be a part of our Temple.
Please contact the office by phone or e-mail for more information.
