Sunday, February 10: Family Passover Kallah. Each child is invited to bring a parent, a grandparent, an aunt or uncle, a family friend, any adult to learn about Passover. Regular class time schedule will be followed. Hebrew classes will be held.
Spotlight on Our Children
Tikkun Olam - to heal the world - is the theme of our school, and each class collects funds for tzedakah, charity. Students are asked to bring a small donation of their own money earned by helping around the house or performing a good deed. Each class decides where their tzedakah funds will be donated. In addition, our students perform many acts of Gemilut Hasadim, good deeds, within the community.
Mitzvah Projects
For her mitzvah project Erica G is collecting non-perishable food items, toiletries, paper goods, and school supplies for the Putnam Community Action Program (CAP) and items such as blankets, towels, sheets, pillows, pet food and dog & cat toys for the Putnam Humane Society. Please place all items in the appropriate boxes which are located in the cloakroom. Erica thanks everyone for their donations!

Emergency cancellations: In case of inclement weather, cancellation of classes will be announced (1) on the Temple answering machine; (2) on WMJV 105.5, and WHUD; (3) via telephone call from a teacher. If you find that weather conditions where you live are dangerous, please do not attempt to come to school regardless of whether there is a cancellation. The safety of our children is our highest priority. There is now an additional resource for announcing cancellation. Check the home page our website and click on the Emergency Cancellations link.
Hebrew Makeup Class: If your child misses Hebrew on any Sunday, he or she should make up the absence by attending one of our Hebrew makeup class on Mondays or Wednesdays from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. Please call the Temple office by noon, (845) 279-4585, if you wish to have a teacher available on either Monday or Wednesday following the absence. Your child should come prepared wth his or her textbook and a pen or pencil.
Hebrew Tutoring: We are also offering tutoring for any child who wishes extra help from 5:30 to 6:30 on Mondays and Wednesdays. Again, please call the office by noon of the day you wish to bring your child to have a teacher available.
Bar/Bat Mitzvah Tutoring: At a certain point in the year before your child's Bar/Bat Mitzvah, the Rabbi will ask you to start bringing him or her on Mondays or Wednesdays from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. You can sign up in advance if you will regularly bring your child on either Mondays or Wednesdays, and we ask you to let us know if you will not be attending any particular week. Or, you can let us know by noon on the day you are bringing your child that he or she will be attending.
We are asking for your cooperation so that we will always have a teacher available for your child and so that our teachers will come only when there is a child with whom they will be working!
New Procedure For Late Arrivals and Early Dismissals
In order to keep track of our children, we have instituted new procedures for late arrivals and early dismissals as follows:
Late Arrivals:
Everyone is late now and then. When your child arrives late, he or she misses out on the introductory part of the teacher's lesson, the part in which they explain the purpose of the day's lesson. Your child will have missed a key part of the class. We ask you to bring your child on time and to sign your child in when you arrive after 8:45 a.m.
Early Dismissals:
We understand that people are pulled in all directions, but we ask you to take your child out of class early only when it is really necessary. In these cases, please give your child a note to hand to the teacher whose class he or she is leaving. When you arrive to pick up your child, please go to the table in the Lobby and sign him or her out of school. The Aide sitting at the table will go to the classroom and get your child.
Shabbat Attendance: Please note that all students in grades 4, 5, 6 are required to attend 12 Friday night services per year. All students in the Bar/Bat Mitzvah class are required to attend 24 Friday night services in the year preceding their Bar/Bat Mitzvah. Sign-in forms for grades 4-6 are located on the table directly in front of the Judaica Shop. Rabbi Acrish has the sign-in form for the B'nei Mitzvah class on the Bimah. Please see him after services. Sign-in forms are also available for Bar and Bat Mitzvah services on Saturday.
